Lagos — Re-branding Nigeria has been going on for a while through various activities designed to project the image of Nigeria in a better way but the music industry has been given the least attention.
In Nigeria today, the music industry is fast growing and most Nigerian youths listen to Nigerian songs than foreign ones, even Nigerians in Diaspora are proud of this great revolution in the Nigerian music industry.
The question then arises: what kind of songs are mostly aired by Nigerian broadcast media and what impact do they have on the people? The fact is, most Nigerian songs are now passing the wrong messages to Nigerian youths, instead of preaching patriotism, love, peace and unity. What they do is to praise yahoo-yahoo and promote the use of hard drugs.
The rebranding process is on and I strongly believe it is the duty of every Nigerian to project the image of the country in a positive way. Nigerian music, are not only aired on Nigerian radio and television stations but also on foreign stations. Bad musical lyrics will only add more negativity to the image of the country.
This is a wakeup call on Nigerian musical artists to use their music; to represent Nigeria well and not to the detriment of the country's image. Government on the other hand, should ban Nigerian radio and T.V stations from airing songs with bad lyrics so that children who are the future leaders of this country will not be corrupted by the bad messages most Nigerians musical artists, preach.

Nigeria need to be re-branded ,and a good means of rebranding is music because it appeals to the young and old.Music can convey powerful messages that ordinary words can not.But caution is needed not to give wrong message throuth music.
