Nigeria: Rangers Defeat Ranchers Bees 2-0 in Enugu

Enugu — Rangers International Football Club of Enugu yesterday at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus Stadium, (UNEC) defeated new entrants into the Globacom Premier League, Ranchers Bees of Kaduna 2-0 in the week two of 2008/2009 Premier League Season.

Fred Okpara opened scoring in the 44th minutes of the first half for the Coal City Flying Antelopes.

Rangers scored its second goal in the 6th minute of the second half through a penalty, which was converted by Damain Udeh.

The visiting Ranchers Bees mounted pressure on their host with a view to scoring a consolation goal during the extra time of the game but their efforts were to no avail.

Speaking with sports writers at the end of the game, Technical adviser of Rangers, Alphonsus Dike expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the game.

Coach Dike, who also expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Ranchers bees, called on Rangers fans across the country to support the club in their remaining games.

The match was also used to test the UNEC Stadium, which will be used as a training pitch for the forthcoming Under 17 World Cup to be hosted by Nigeria.
