The Executive Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Alhaji Musa Maikasuwa Yakubu, has disclosed that the FCT administration has ordered the construction of about 2,000 classrooms in both Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and primary schools
Yakubu said this when the Chinese embassy in Nigeria, donated three classrooms to the FCT UBEB.
Handing over the classrooms at Dabi Primary School in Kwali Area Council, the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Shigeru Hamano, said education is the area through they want to impact on the lives of Nigerians.
"In providing succour to Africa, we have identified education as the key area to help Nigeria because of its fundamental effect to human lives.," Hamano said.
Receiving the classrooms on behalf of the FCT Minister, Sen. Adamu Aliero, the FCT Education Secretary, Alhaji Husseini Halilu Pai commended the embassy for the gesture.
"My delight stems from the fact that our collaboration with the Chinese embassy in the area of the provision of basic education in the FCT is yielding tremendous results. We equally appreciate the management of Change Managers International Network whose collaborative efforts with the government of Japan has given birth this laudable project that will ease the problem of inadequate classroom accommodation in the benefiting schools", Pai said.
Speaking further, Pai, however, commended the FCT Minister, Sen. Adamu Aliero, for the attention he has been giving the education secretariat.
"The task of providing education does not squarely rest on the government alone; hence, the need for support from private sector, donor agencies and good spirited individuals
"Recently, we signed a similar Japanese Grant Assistance in collaboration with some NGOs to improve Primary Education in the FCT. The benefiting schools are LEA Durumi in Bwari Area Council and Jikwoyi in AMAC", Pai added.
Also speaking to LEADERSHIP, the Executive Chairman, UBEB, Alhaji Musa Maikasuwa Yakubu, explained that the FCT administration has ordered the construction of about 2,000 classrooms both Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Primary Schools in the FCT.
Explaining further, Yakubu said that the project would be executed quarterly, adding that if concluded, it will help in the educational system in the FCT.
"We appreciate Kwali Area Council for the support they rendered, which is aimed at improving the life of our children."
