The Senatorial candidate petitioned by the National Democratic Party of Liberia NDPL, Hon Francis Chu-Chuc Horton has rejected the petition.
In a rejection speech delivered by Mr. Horton said among other things that since he received the Montserrado County Branch petition to canvass for the vacant Senatorial seat, he has rationally toiled and prayed over the issue thinking as to what should be an appropriate response.
Mr. Horton said he was disheartened to inform NDPL Partisans that he prefers not to canvass for the Montserrado vacant Senatorial seat, but rather he is prepared to work assiduously with the leadership of the Party to strengthen it for the next General and Presidential Elections.
The NDPL nominee said he felt very humbled by the preference given him from amongst a cadre of potentially capable citizens for such a high and enviable post. While toiling over what should be an appropriate reaction to the Party's Petition, Mr. Horton said several issues continuously reverberated in his mind, including institution building, subscribing to commitment of nationalism and unity in diversity.
He emphasized that Institutional Building requires that a solid and suitable organizational structure is put in place to create a functioning environment of cooperation, respect and purpose. Not an atmosphere of discord or confrontational dissentions.
He maintained further that Institutional Building, in the case of NDPL is actually Institutional Re-building which he said is paramount and to do otherwise will suggest a repeat of failures such as the 1997 and 2005 National Elections.
He then called on his kinsmen to build a party that will subscribe to a commitment of nationalism; a party that first seeks the well-being of the larger constituencies, fostering the basic human matters as food, shelter, energy; nationalism, instead of individualism.
He suggested that the intention of the party to feature a candidate in this senatorial by-election must be reviewed critically; "even though we all know that political parties are being primarily formed to win political power, however, in order to do so, it must be circumspective" He asked to be forgiven for his decision not to contest the by-election
