Kigali — Rwanda is not fielding any player at the third leg of the ITF Men's Futures which started yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya.
According to the technical director of the local Tennis Federation (RTF), Thierry Ntwali, the country did not get any wild cards for the leg.
"We didn't get any wild card but also it's very expensive for the players," Ntwali said. When contacted, Rwanda's top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa admitted that he had missed the third leg because he did not have enough funds to travel.
"It's very expensive to go for such tournaments when you have no sponsor," Gasigwa said.
In Kampala, Gasigwa and Dieudonne Habiyambere suffered pre-mature exits.
Habiyambere lost 4-6 3-6 to Czech Republic's player Dennis Marko in the first round while Gasigwa was beaten 6-3, 6-0 by Nigeria's Destiny Ford Da Silva in the second round of the qualification round.
