Africa: Zimuto to Represent Country At Daughters of Africa Show

1 October 2009

Harare — OLIVER Mtukudzi's backing vocalist and mbira player Vimbainashe Zimuto and Girls High School student Charlene Fireyi will represent Zimbabwe in the Daughters of Africa talent search show.

Mathius Bangure who facilitated the auditions said Lionel Jansen made the final selection of the representatives after a thorough scrutiny of the video sent to him carrying the auditions.

"The two will go to Nairobi, Kenya, to join contestants from other African countries for a workshop pencilled for December this year.

"They will also undergo a screening process during the six weeks-long workshop. Winners will then tour Netherlands between March and May and maybe Belgium for two other shows," he said.

Bangure said they were organising a talent search of the same nature for the local artistes but would start with those who came for Daughters of Africa's preliminary auditions.

"The first auditions were an opener for us and we are looking forward to funds from the donors to start a local event of the same nature.

"We applied for funding from various organisations and as soon as the funds are available we will then start auditions.

"This country is full of talent and if nurtured we can produce fine artistes. This was witnessed by the tight contest at the Daughters of Africa auditions held last month," he said.

Daughters of Africa is programme aimed at promoting and nurturing talent among young African girls.
