Uganda: Nation Faces UAE in ICC Shield Tourney

Kampala — The Uganda cricket team will travel to Dubai in February to play the United Arab Emirates and later host Namibia in August in their international cricket body ICC Inter-continental shield campaign.

Uganda, who top the standings with 20 points, after their seven wickets away win against Bermuda in August, need to win the remaining two encounters, to book a place in the final due in October in United Arab Emirates. The top two teams proceed to the final.

According to fixtures released by the ICC last week, Uganda's away game will be in early February, while the home tie will take place in early October.

"To date, only the first Intercontinental Shield match has been scheduled and confirmed, but at this time I would like propose dates/windows for the remainder of these Intercontinental Shield matches. Exact dates can be reviewed," read part of the message sent to the four member associations taking part in the newly introduced event.

Uganda cricket association's organising secretary Davis Arinaitwe said the team has started training, as they wait for the dates.

"At least we know the period we are expected to play. We can train focussing on that," he said.

Like in Bermuda, Uganda is expected to play a two-day game, and later play two one-day games and a Twenty20.
