Kampala — BOBI Wine attracted a full house to his Carolina Mundeeba launch concert at Hotel Africana on Friday evening irrespective of the fact that nemesis Bebe Cool was also launching his Agenze album at the nearby Kyadondo Rugby grounds on the same night, nothwithstanding.
The beginning was a bit rocky, and it was tempting to sneer at Bobi Wine. But the urge to just let it go and just enjoy the show was also strong.
Wine deserves praise for doing music that goes in more directions than a blind man in a maze.
On Friday night, he veered between dancehall on Kagoma and Ghetto; hip-hop on Bad Man from Kamwokya, Afro beat on Wendi and Carolina Mundeeba; and dancehall reggae on Adam ne Kaawa, I Promise and Aneganye (featuring Henry Tigan).
But it was even more exciting when he sampled his latest recording, Ebilooto (Dreams). Tales of President Museveni, FDC's Besigye and CP's Ken Lukyamuzi having a good time over coffee; Mufti Kayongo and Mufti Mubajje praying together; and Wine himself and Bebe Cool having a friendly chat, drew wild cheers.
Events WareHouse, Coca Cola, Housing Finance, Club Beer and D-Mark supported the show. Bobkins organised it.
