5 October 2009

The event took place at the Yaounde Lycée General Leclerc stadium on October 3.

The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang last October 3 launched the 2009 sports season for the Prime Minister's Office at the Yaounde Lycée General Leclerc stadium in Yaounde, stating that sports activities were necessary because they balance the mind with the body. The sports disciplines of the Prime Minister's Office include Sports for All, Nambudo club called "Kaze Star" and the Civilian and Security staff football teams.

When the Prime Minister, Philemon Yang arrived, he was ushered into the stadium by cheering students of Lycée General Leclerc. This was amidst animation by traditional dance groups, among which was the Yaounde Nshii Noni Njang. The major highlight of Saturday's ceremony was a football match pitting the team of the security personnel against that of the civilians. Before the football encounter started, the Nambudo club put up a thrilling display. The Secretary General at the Prime Minister's Office, Jules Doret Ndongo braved the mud in the stadium to give a kick off of the match. This marked the beginning of the exciting match that ended with a draw as each of the teams scored two goals. The civilian team opened score at the 17th minute of the first half through the team's captain Tanyi Tiku. He scored the second goal for the team at the 26th minute of the first half. The first half of the thrilling match therefore ended with the civilian team leading by two goals.

The security staff team entered the play ground for the second half of the match more determined and the determination was transformed into a goal at the 23rd minute. When on the 35th minute the Security personnel team was accorded a penalty, Max Ndema made good use of the opportunity by transforming it to the second goal for his team. This was therefore the equalising goal. Both teams struggled to score so as to carry the day in vain till the blast of the final whistle. At the end of the 90 minutes of play both players, spectators who were mainly officials and staff of the Prime Minister's Office expressed satisfaction at the encounter and successful start of the 2009 sports season. This was in line with the Prime Minister's earlier declaration that, "sports activities are necessary for our success as the Prime Minister's Office and as individuals".
