Nigeria: Amnesty - 'Call Abbe to Order'

Abuja — Elders and political leaders of the Niger Delta at the weekend faulted the Defence Minster, Major Gen. Godwin Abbe, who last week read riot act to militants in the region. They urged President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to call him to order, saying such "provocative" pronouncements were capable of derailing the peace process.

With the termination of the 60-day amnesty period yesterday, however, they said they want a piece of the action in the ongoing peace process, even as they lamented their exclusion from the course of action being taken in the region.
