Angola: New ID Card Takes Effect Thursday

1 October 2009

Luanda — The new identity card of Angolan citizens is starting to be issued this Thursday, in Luanda, in a ceremony that will be attended by top individualities of the Angolan government.

The government official, who was speaking during an interview to the Public Television of Angola (TPA), informed that this decision came from the approval of two legal diplomas.

According to the minister of Justice, Guilhermina Prata, although the ID issuing process is starting in Luanda this Wednesday, this process will only happen in other provinces as from 12 October.

She said that on 12 October, the ID will start to be issued in the provinces of Cabinda, Bengo, Benguela, Kwanza Norte and Kwanza Sul.

On 16 October, the programme will be extended to the provinces of Uíge, Malanje, Huíla, Huambo and Bié.

The official added that on 22 and 29 October, the ID will start being issued in the provinces of Namibe, Cunene and Kuando Kubango and eastern provinces.

The new identity card guarantees greater security against any forgery, assured the minister of Justice, Guilhermina Prata.

The new identity card has a very expensive material of high security (laser card) that will be very difficult to forge.
