An Abuja Federal High Court has fixed November 12 for former governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna and three others to take their plea on amended charges in a suit filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Haruna and his former aide, Mohammed Inuwa Bassi were first arraigned by the EFCC on August 5, 2008 alongside Minority Leader in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, John Babani Elias who is now at large and Al-Akim Investment Nigeria Limited on a 21- count charge of money laundering and embezzlement of state funds.
The EFCC yesterday filed 28 amended charges against the accused persons
but their pleas were not taken because counsel to EFCC O Anozie said the anti graft agency had been unable to serve two of the accused persons with the amended charges.
He asked the court for an adjournment to enable EFCC serve them with the amended charges so that they can take a joint plea. Boni Haruna's lawyer O. Jolawo did not object. Justice Adamu Bello ordered that bail of the accused persons should continue.
The court granted Boni and the former minority leader bail last year in the sum of N100 million.
