Abuja — The Federal Housing Authority has debunked a rumour that the building which collapsed in the Gwarinpa District of the Federal Capital Territory over the weekend belonged to it.
The head, corporate communications of the authority, Mr Tunde Ipinmisho, who disclosed this in a release made available to LEADERSHIP, said although the FHA is the dominant player in property development in Gwarinpa, it is not the sole owner of all property in the district.
"The particular portion of land upon which the collapsed building was erected is outside the area, allocated to the FHA, so the Authority has no construction activity in the area nor did it allocate land to any developer in the affected area," he said.
"Media reports said construction work on the collapsed building commenced 20 years ago. The authority would like to state that work on the 4,033 houses in Gwarinpa II Estate commenced in 1996 and none of them has failed or collapsed till date."
Speaking further, Ipinmisho said the management of the authority recently visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Adamu Aliero, on a previously scheduled appointment and no directive to stop work in Gwarinpa was issued it.
"For those familiar with the terrain, the collapsed building is located on the hill top around the new Royal Polo Club in Gwarinpa; on the left of the new N11 Road. All developments to the right of this new road belong to FHA, while those to the left belong to individuals and some government agencies other than the FHA."
