West Africa: Workers Games Moved to 2011

The maiden edition of the West Africa Civil Service Games which was earlier fixed for 2010 has been shifted to 2011, according to organizers of the sports fiesta.

Disclosing this in a chat with reporters in Abuja at the weekend, Vice Chairman of the organizing committee for the games and President of Nigeria's Federation of Public Service Games Sylvester Ikhuejamoye says the shift was informed by the need to ensure that each of the member countries has structures on ground to train its personnel.

According to Ikhuejamoye it was discovered that most of the West African countries had no structures on ground, and the body decided that there was need to assist such countries with the required structures for them to be prepared for the competition.

"The target for the West Africa Civil Service Games is now 2011 and not 2010 as we announced earlier because we discovered that most of the member countries had no structures on ground we thought it was better we assist such countries for them to be up before the games, that is basically what informed the shift", Ikhuejamoye stated.

He said a sensitization conference will be held in Rome Togo to rum support for the proposed games, saying he has been scheduled to deliver a paper at the event.

On the shift in the date for the Nigerian workers games earlier fixed for Lagos in November, Ikhuejamoye said it was because of the clash with the Sallah festivity. The games now hold from December 2-12.
