Uganda Golf Union (UGU) secretary Jasper Kamukama is positive the national ladies team will scale the heights in the East and Central Africa All Africa Challenge Trophy due later this month.
Uganda will host the inaugural event at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course that tees off October 27.
Save for when they won the regional crown in 2008, there has been little to write home about for ladies' golf in Uganda but Kamukama insists that they have done the basics right and have a good team capable of winning on a consistent basis.
"It's unfortunate that we will not have Monica Ntege and Flavia (Namakula) as part of our team for various reasons. Ntege is the host trustee and opted not to play because she will be busy with the organisation," Kamukama said.
She added that the selected players have returned some impressive scores and have been very active over the past three weeks. "With more training in the remaining weeks, we shall be in good shape," said handicap 6 Kamukama.
Nalwoga, a 10-handicapper, will be making a debut on the team together with fast improving Harriet Kitaka (h/c 9) and reserve player Irene Nakalembe of Entebbe Golf Club. Eva Okatch completes Uganda's five-man team.
