Somalia: Islamist Fighters Make New Military Bases in North of Beledweyn Town

More Islamist fighters of Hizbul Islam organization with several battle wagons made new military bases in Elgal village north of Beledweyn town in central Somalia, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Thursday.

Reports from the town say that Islamist forces reached at around Elgal village, 15 kilometers north of Beledweyn town where a former military base for the transitional government soldiers and made new bases at yesterday until overnight.

Elgal village was a base for the government troops who vacated from the town recently and the arrival of the Islamist fighting in Elgal village comes as both the Ethiopian and government soldiers are currently in Kala-beyrka intersection about 23 kilometers north of the town in Hiran region.

It is unclear the reason that the Islamist fighters made the new military bases in out of the Beledweyn town. But a statement from Hizbul Islam organization said that their aim was protecting Ethiopian and government troops whom they said they were making movement at Kala-beyrka intersection in Hiran region.

The new military bases of the Islamist forces of Hizbul Islam organization comes as the TFG officials in the region threatened recently that they would invade Beledweyn town in Hiran region.
