Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has said the education sector should switch to e-books to cut down on the use of paper and save the environment.
He was speaking at the Heads of State meeting with CEOs attending the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Summit in Geneva on Tuesday.
The premier, who represented President Jakaya Kikwete, elaborated that education delivery through e-book can be achieved with development of ICT.
"ICT can give us an answer to the destruction of forests for paper production... let us switch to e-book," he told the delegates.
Earlier, in a key note address to the roundtable, the UN Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki-Moon, said the world has the technology, the tools and the money to overcome effects of climate change, but it lacks political will. "Our major challenge today is how we can use ICT to address the climate change," he added.
The overall theme of the roundtable was: Forging partnerships for safer, more inclusive information society and the sub- topics were ICT for development, cyber security, climate change and emergency telecommunications.
In his final remarks during the discussions, Mr Pinda asked the ITU to work on the recommendations so that implementation starts immediately.
