Nigeria: Ex-Militants - Owie Tasks Federal Government On Establishment of State Police

Benin — FORMER Chief whip of the senate, Senator Rowland Owie, has called on the Federal Government to urgently set up machinery for the establishment of a state police and the national guard where the disarmed militants could be absorbed.

Owie, who commended President Umaru Yar'Adua for the amnesty granted to militants in the Niger Delta, however described as absurd the statement credited to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, that the party was planning a rally for the successful conclusion of the amnesty programme.
