After the Friday face-off between singers Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine, here is yet another battle for the ultimate prize as Uganda chooses her cream in the music world this weekend.
The Golden Awards that have filled the scandal dogged Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) awards gap are this Sunday at Nakivubo Stadium. Raga and reggae artiste, Bebe Cool who was on Friday in the ring with Bobi Wine is back to tussle it out with new blood Goodlyfe (Mowzey Radio &Weasel), Jose Chameleone and Eagles Production's Haruna Mubiru for the top accolade for the Artiste of the year.
And most likely, this will go to Bebe Cool despite the fact that Goodlyfe has dominated charts this year. With the old timer's successful Agenze album, it is unlikely that Goodlyfe will have their hands on this accolade.
However, Bebe Cool and Goodlyfe, who have the highest nominations, are facing off in six other categories.
The best female category has Grace Nakimera, Cindy, Desire Luzinda and Mariam Ndagire who ironically retired from music this year. The favourite here is Grace given her outstanding creativity in Kawonawo -although Cindy is another hot item.
The competition for best male artiste is between Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Chameleone and Haruna Mubiru. But still Bebe Cool stands high chances of sweeping this category.
There are six new categories which have not been on the PAM awards list. The Best collaboration has Nyumbani (Goodlyfe & Viboyo), Where You Are (Goodlyfe & Blu3), Yannimba (Kenzo & Mikie Wine) and Mr DJ (Goodlyfe & Swangaz).
Best Girls Group has Viva Stars, Obsessions, Blu3 and Wafagio.
Best Video Directors has Centrix, L-Bashir, Mark Velie and Deddac.
Best TV Local Music Programme has Late Show (WBS TV), Da Beat (UBC TV), KUT (NBS), Sanyuka (Record TV) and Koona ne NTV.
Best Radio Local Music Programme is Weloboze (Akaboozi Ku Biri), Africa Koona (Dembe FM), Tumbi mu tumbi (Bukedde FM), Ekibimba (Beat FM), Butuntumula Express (Super FM) and Alive and kicking (CBS).
The best comedian/group has Orions Entertainment, Amarula Family, Theatre Factory and Dr. Dolibondo.
Voting is open for the public that holds 30% rights. Simply write Golden, leave a space and write the category number, then leave a space and write the name of the artiste/song and send to 8888.
According to the chairman of the organising committee, Abbey Musinguzi, voting ends on Sunday at 8p.m. and the winners will be announced at midnight. Both female and male artistes will each walk away with Shs 2 million, while all the other categories will have a cash prize of Shs 500,000 each.
There will be performances from Eagles Production, Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Goodlyfe, Mathias Walukagga, Cindy, Aziz Azion, and Jamal among others. Tickets go for Shs5,000 for general happiness, Shs10,000 for silver seats and Shs50,000 for gold seats in the pavilion.
