Kenya: Kibaki Hails Obama Nobel Prize Win

9 October 2009

Nairobi — Kenya President Kibaki has hailed US President Barack Obama on his 2009 Nobel Peace Prize win.

He said the award was a fitting tribute to the US President for his efforts in initiating dialogue aimed at bringing about sustainable peace in various parts of the world.

'On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I take this opportunity to congratulate you on being declared winner of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

"The award is indeed another milestone in your illustrious public career and recognition of the contribution you are making to the well being of humanity," said statement from his office.

President Kibaki said he was confident that President Obama would use his new status as a Nobel Peace Prize winner to open new frontiers in international diplomacy.

'I have no doubt that this award will give new impetus to your efforts to bring about lasting peace in areas where war has ravaged communities over long periods of time.

"I also encourage you to continue opening the avenues of dialogue in order to bring about a better understanding among the family of nations', said President Kibaki.

Absolutely surprised, but very much in support of Obama. maybe all the popularity gave a big push, but I believe this are extraordinary times in world politics, and Obama is doing much to lead us all in new directions, whether they are difficult and frustrating at times, on the long run we will see considerable changes for the better. He is a person to be proud of !

Obama is the president of the USA of say 90% white peoples and only 10% blacks. This is a prize for the American peoples that a African can become their president. The big question is, can Africans learn any lessons from his great achievements. I sure know not to be holding my breath.

To BRIM -- Actually the US population is 66% white, 15% Hispanic/Latino, 14% Black and 5% Asian... However, I agree with your query and hope to see more change in Africa as well!

To an american observer Unless the 'hope' you mentioned is with a good measure of audacity you will be treading the same path every African has trodden, since before time almost. The road to nowhere is a dead end, how should one go about their redemption
