Luanda — The defence minister, Kundi Paihama, left this Friday for Catumbela district, the central Benguela province, where he will lead the main festivity ceremony of the 18th anniversary of the foundation of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).
The delegation is comprised by the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) staff chief, gen. Francisco Pereira Furtado and by general officers.
The ceremony will be marked by speeches, troops parade, military demonstrations and the exhibition of the national flag.
The event is happening under the motto "By the re-edification of FAA, let's improve the military organisation and discipline".
October 09 was instituted as FAA day because it was on this date, in 1991, that the first step was taken towards the creation and consolidation of a single and unified Armed Force, in the framework of the peace accords signed in Bicesse region, in Portugal, between the Angolan government and the opposition UNITA party representatives.
The creation of the FAA was a result of the fusion between the former armed forces of the government (FAPLA) and UNITA (FALA).
