Abuja — About 20 indigenous companies have entered bids for the urban renewal of markets within the Abuja Municipal Area Council(AMAC).
Declaring the tender open, the council chairman, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, who was represented by the Head, Works department and member of the tenders' board, Engr. Alhassan Dakwoyi, urged the committee to be transparent in their assignment, because it is the tradition of the council to follow due process.
In his remark, Mr. Amos Bulus, another member of the committee, revealed that AMAC was opening tender for the execution of some capital projects within the municipality on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) policy for some of the markets in AMAC.
According to him, because it is the duty of the local governments to develop and construct markets, the tenders' board has to follow the procedure laid down by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, which is the acceptable standard applied to all government projects at all levels.
"We would go through the submission of every person's proposal, and we look at the reputation of the companies, and their pricing policies before we can recommend the company with the highest score as the winner of the contract," he added.
Speaking in the same vein, the consultant, Lugbe Relocation Market, Architect Dr. Nsude stated that the project, right from inception has been under his company, adding that his company designed and pursued the contract until the approval was obtained.
He further explained that the markets were designed to have cold rooms, meat shops, chicken shops, different types of shops, warehouses, administrative block, fire and police stations.
"It is going to be a comprehensive market for everything you will look for," he said.
Nsude also commended the tenders board for their transparent and successful assignment.
The projects include Nyanya Community Plaza, Karu market, Kugbo mechanic workshop/spare parts market, Lugbe re-location market, Gbagalape open air market, AMAC Housing Estate Plaza phase two, and ACO Estate Lugbe.
