Gambia: Global Week of Climate Action

As part of activities marking the Global Week of climate Action, Global Unification-The Gambia in partnership with other organizations has lined up series of activities such as tree planting, symposium on youth engaging in climate action, clean up exercises and a climate action rally marking the campaign week.

Through these activities, we hope to raise the level of awareness among young people on climate change solutions and also to ensure their participation in environmental sustainability in the country. The rally which is expected to bring more than 1500 young people would also serve as an opportunity to collect more than 1500 signatories in support of the "Seal the deal" campaign initiated by the UN Secretary General. This will also serve as the voice of the Gambian youth in preparation for world leaders' summit on climate change to be held in Copenhagen, in December 2009.

The procession will start at the GALP petrol station, Churchill's Town and end at the Buffer Zone, where it will be succeeded by a musical concert.

The association is therefore calling on individuals and organizations interest in taking part in this campaign to register at the GU secretariat at Suite 106, Plaza Office Centre, 151 Mosque, Road, Serekunda or call 7318187, 9807770, 3407573 or 9856691.
