Nigeria: Governor Yuguda Takes Office to the Venues

Lagos — Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has practically moved his office to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) and other venues that will form part of the Nigeria 2009 World Cup show in a determined effort to get things perfectly right.

A day visit to the city of Bauchi gives an insight into how things changed at that venue and got FIFA's unreserved approval. "It is his way (Yuguda) of doing things and that is how we got this far. He threw himself into the job with direct supervision and constant check by himself.

He was not okay with third party information and that was why he kept visiting virtually on daily basis and called everyone involved regularly. Most times he resumed from the stadium and closed work from other areas as the hotels and other tourist sites," Alhaji Aminu Maigari, the Head of the Bauchi Sub-seat said at the stadium.

The Bauchi State Governor has be seen on regular basis at different venues unannounced as the state puts perfection into organisation and facilities update ahead of kick off of the FIFA U17 World Cup on the 24th of this month.

Investigations confirm that the style of the Governor put the workers at the stadium and hotels on their toes and made them to complete the jobs on schedule. It was the fantastic state of the venue that inspired FIFA to approve Bauchi as a venue.

The Bauchi centre which will host the Nigeria versus Argentina match on October 30th is ready for the players. The stadium in particular went through speedy works and transformed into a new centre after the initial doubts expressed about Bauchi from opposition quarters.

The stadium is set with the facilities provided shooting above the number demanded by FIFA. The dressing room has different sections for international and local matches. The media centre has 50 systems that are internet enabled even though the requirement was for 25 systems.

The same quality at the stadium extends to the hotels earmarked for the championship. Acclaimed Zaranda Hotel has regained it original status at the behest and drive of Yuguda. Yankari Suites (Protea) which will accommodate the FIFA officials has it's 24 suites ready and sparkling.

Zaranda was closed to guests at the instance of the Governor for the hotel to be completely refurbished. The job has returned the 20year hotel to its birthday glory.
