Nairobi — Kanu national vice-chairman Gideon Moi on Tuesday accused his boss Uhuru Kenyatta of undermining the party's course.
Mr Moi said the understanding of Mr Kenyatta joining the coalition government as a Kanu representative was to safeguard the interests of party members.
"Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has cleverly championed the interests of his ODM-K brethrens, Prime Minister Raila Odinga is doing it for ODM and so are the likes of PNU leaders Kiraitu Murungi, but our party chairman has remained mute.
"How many Kanu members has he helped out? Whose interests is he serving in the grand coalition?", he asked.
In one of his boldest attacks of Mr Kenyatta, Mr Moi, the son of retired president Daniel arap Moi, said it was wrong for Mr Kenyatta to lead the PNU campaign in the recent Bomachage by-elections where Kanu had its candidate.
"How can one trust a man who leaves behind his family members trapped in a house fire to rush out and start helping out the family of his neighbour who is facing the same trouble?," Mr Moi asked.
He was speaking in Machakos during a meeting of Kanu party leaders drawn from 17 constituencies in Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Mwingi districts.
He criticised leaders possessed with forming tribal alliances in readiness for 2012 presidential elections.
He said they should instead unite all the 42 tribes of Kenya.
