Nigeria: Obi Flags-Off 4,000 Primary School Classrooms Today

Awka — GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State would today flag-off the building of 4,000 primary school classroom blocks in the state.

The flag-off of the project, starting with the first 1000, will take place at the Women Development Centre, Awka the state capital. The project is planned in such a way that all the towns and communities in the State will benefit.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Dubem Obaze who addressed newsmen in Akwa said that the project was in line with the state government's commitment and the philosophy of encouraging communities to take ownership of projects, saying the construction of the classrooms would be the responsibility of town unions.

On how to enforce standards and compliance to design, he said the design had been done by the State Government, which would hand it over to communities and towns.

"Having done this he said. Government will monitor compliance to the design in all respects," he said.

Mr. Obaze, who said that the project was part of Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS), called on the people of the state to cooperate with the government and assured them of Obi's commitment and good intentions for the State.

Also, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kay Onyechi said the commencement of the 4000 classrooms was the state government's equivalent of marshal plan for education. She said that the project was just a tip of the iceberg in the series of projects the state government would carry out in education sector in this quarter.

She said that a lot of classrooms in all the towns of the State had been rehabilitated.
