Gabon: End of a four months transition

14 — The transition has been completed in Gabon with the validation of the election of Ali Bongo Ondimba to the presidency of the Republic after the elections on August 30 and after the Constitutional Court had ended Monday night the process initiated following the death of President Omar Bongo Ondimba, June 8.

In accordance with the Constitution, the sworn of Ali Bongo Ondimba in the presence of Parliament and the Constitutional Court will take place Friday and a Prime Minister will be appointed or the current Prime Minister Paul Biyoghe Mba could be renewed.

Tuesday, Ali Bongo, who was accompanied by his Staff, met with Rose Francine Rogombé at the presidential palace. Mrs Rogombe served 4 months during the transition towards the establishment of a new elected president.

After the recount of the votes, Ali Bongo has been credited by the Constitutional Court of 41.79% of votes (instead of 41.78% as previously announced).

The situation is very calm throughout the country despite political differences and wounds caused by this presidential election.
