14 October 2009

14 — Elected President Ali Bongo Ondimba will be sworn this week and will lead Gabon, a small oil-rich central African country with 1.5 million people where the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG-in power) has always ruled the country for 41 years and have got a new 7 years term.

The elected President Ali Bongo, confirmed on Monday evening in his office by the Constitutional Court , after a month of electoral disputes, was visited Tuesday by Interim President Francine Rose Rogombé the presidential palace.

The Head of State Acting President of the Senate Rose Francine Rogombé, was sworn in and assumed office June 10 in Libreville in strict compliance with the constitution, after the death in Spain of former président Omar Bongo Ondimba.

She was charged to organize the funeral of the late president and the transition at the top of the State before the election of a new president.

Gabon's first magistrate, Mrs. Rogombé was in February 2009 the only candidate (Omar Bongo's instructions, officials said) for the post of President of the Senate, replacing René Radembino Coniquet.
