Maputo — Two unknown assailants attacked and stabbed prominent photo-journalist, Celeste MacArthur, outside her home in the central Mozambican city of Beira on Tuesday night, reports Thursday's issue of the Maputo daily "Noticias".
MacArthur was returning home after a day's work on the Beira paper "Diario de Mocambique", when she was ambushed at the entry to the apartment block where she lives. She suffered injuries to her face, arms and legs. The attackers stole her camera, mobile phone and personal documents.
After receiving medical treatment at Beira Central Hospital, she returned home later that night.
MacArthur is one of the few senior Mozambican photojournalists based outside Maputo, and the only woman who has made a career out of photojournalism. She is also the Sofala provincial secretary of the Mozambican National Union of Journalists (SNJ).
