Luanda — The Governments of Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo decided to stop immediately expulsion of citizens from the two countries living legally and peacefully in the two States, said Angolan vice minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chicoty.
The decision, according to the official that led Angolan delegation to neighbouring DRC, comes in the final communiqué of the talks between Angolan and Congolese authorities.
According to George Chicoty, while speaking to press at airport 4 de Fevereiro, the parts decided that any other types of expulsion of illegal citizens will obey to a established mechanism.
"We will hold meetings between governments to communicate the situations along the border to provincial governments".
Asked about motivations of DRC parliament to approve a law meant to expel Angolan nationals the deputy minister said that DRC parliament never took a decision like this, denying what was reported by the press organs.
"It was a decision of the government and not the parliament which was reported by the Congolese press. The decision aimed to expel citizens in illegal situation but unfortunately reached legal Angolans, said the vice-minister.
The source added that the governments agreed to divulgate their decision to citizens so that they can feel protected.
"We confirm to our citizens that expulsion process has been halted and now we will start a process to identify those who lost goods and what they have to do" concluded the minister.
Angolan delegation was integrated by vice-ministers of Defence, Cândido Van-Dúnem, Home Affairs Dinho Martins, Social welfare Miguel Ângelo and assistant chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, general Geraldo Sachipengo "Nunda".
About 35,000 Angolan citizens returned home coming from DRC getting into the country through borders of Cabinda, Zaire, Uíge, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico provinces.
