Nigeria: Bauchi Gets New Speaker

Bauchi — After about two months of political manouvres and intriques for the emergence of a new speaker, Hon Abubakar Ahmed Faggo, former Chairman of Shira Local Government and a Naval personnel has emerged as the third Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly in just two years .

The new Speaker took over from his predecessor who was appointed Deputy Governor of the state in August this year.

Faggo is the third speaker to be elected under the leadership of the Governor Isa Yuguda administration. The first was Hon Dauda Haliru Jika who was removed while the second was Hon Babayo Gamawa who was elevated to the position of deputy governor.

Since August, the House has remained without a substantive speaker thus given speculations that all is not well with the leadership of the party as they were not able to agree on an acceptable candidate for the post.

At their sitting on Thursday, Hon Harsanu Guyaba representing Kirfi Constituency, nominated Faggo for the post of a speaker and he was seconded by Hon Bawa Alabura, representing Warji Constituency and the election was cnducted under a peaceful atmosphere.

The House made a complete shift as they effected leadership change in the

House with the position of deputy speaker going toHon Saleh Abubakar Dumba, representing Dass Constituency while the position of majority leader was given to Babayo Aliyu Misau, representing Misau Constituency.

Other pincipal officers elected include Hon Mustapha Sala representing Ganjuwa East Constituency as Majority Whip while Hon Auwal Jatau emerged as the Minority Leader and Hon Rifkatu Samson Danna from Bogoro constituency as the new Minority Whip of the House.
