The immediate past chief of staff to the Zamfara State government, Alhaji Musa Zubairu has said the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has no room again in 2011 elections and future political engagements following the consolidation of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in the state.
Zubairu said that with him and others at the helm of affairs in the PDP, ANPP would have to join them or wait for a long time.
This is coming as the 23 -member State Assembly, all members of the ANPP, have concluded arrangements to decamp to the PDP at the instance of the former chief of staff who has been wooing them to follow the governor.
In an interview with Alhaji Zubairu yesterday, who is the new secretary of the PDP in the state, he said his resignation from being chief of staff was to enable him have enough time to face party politics and guarantee the success of the party in the 2011 elections.
"My resignation from my former office is now giving me enough opportunity to concentrate on the party. You know that the PDP is greater and larger than the ANPP which we formerly belonged to. So holding such two positions will not allow me good oversight over them, and so I have to leave the former. Now I am a full time party man, and at the party, we will continue to do our best to ensure the PDP wins future polls. As it is now, there is no vacancy for the ANPP in Zamfara State. This is not mere statement, but factual. You can see what the governor is doing vis-à-vis where we came from. He has united the people and as it is now, almost everybody of hitherto different political umbrellas are coming to him. So it's an achievement on its own. The opposition is dead in this state and I pity them. They either join the moving train, or wait until it reaches its destination which I cannot say when."
Zubairu, seen as the arrow head of political strategy of the Mamuda Shinkafi administration, had last week resigned as chief of staff to the governor, a position he has held together with ANPP secretary since 2007. His resignation led to the scrapping of the office of chief of staff by Governor Shinkafi, who is said to have described Zubairu as the engine room of his political administration.
