Zimbabwe:'Be Wary of Hostile Media'

19 October 2009

Harare — Zimbabweans have been urged to be wary of media houses that are deliberately trying to destroy the inclusive Government by attacking members of the clergy who they label as belonging to or supporting particular political parties.

In a recent statement, founder and president of the Tehillar Christian Network Rev Sam Malunga said all religious leaders should be free to preach the word without fear of being labelled political for the sake of national healing.

"The church is the conscience and moral compass of society and should continue its noble task of propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ, promoting patriotism, nation-building and inculcating moral values and praying for those in authority," he said.

Rev Malunga said unprogressive anti-Government media practitioners should not intimidate Zimbabweans by promoting disunity.

He advised people not to incite hatred and violence but strive to bring hope for the nation and the fear of the Lord.

The TCN leader urged the church to forge and enhance its relationship with the State. "The church should continue to forge ahead in its efforts to enhance church and State relations, give Godly counsel and spiritual guidance to those in authority and also to the nation," he said.
