SOME women of Kankoyo Constituency in Mufulira have warned their member of Parliament (MP) Percy Chanda and other PF MPs in the district to deliver on their campaign promises or else they should forget about getting a second term in the 2011 tripartite elections.
The women told a delegation from the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), that was touring the constituency to check on the effects of mining operations on the environment, that their MP was not doing anything to address the problems and challenges facing the constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the residents in the area, Matilda Chewe said Mr Chanda and other PF MPs in the area should work hard or forget about getting a second term because people were not happy with their performance.
"When we decided to vote for PF MPs, we thought they would deliver on their campaign promises and improve service delivery, but the situation has gotten worse.
"Just look at the blocked drainage system and other unpleasant things in our area. The situation is bad. The MP is not even seen in the constituency and this is why we are saying that PF MPs should forget about getting a second term here," she said.
And Copperbelt MMD provincial vice-chairperson, Jerry Mukonkela has said the performance of the opposition PF MPs in the
province was pathetic and should be an eye opener to the electorate not to be driven by the wind to make changes that cannot improve their lives.
Mr Mukonkela said the performance of most PF MPs on the Copperbelt was bad and some electorate had even regretted having voted for them.
He said it was sad that the electorate on the Copperbelt voted with emotions during the 2006 tripartite elections and ended up voting for wrong people who were only interested in improving and boosting their businesses.
