Madagascar/Rwanda: Road to Madagascar

19 October 2009

Kigali — RWANDA lived up to the phrase 'a bad beginning makes a good ending' when they trounced Tunisia on Saturday to finish 9th at the 2009 Fiba Championship for Women.

It was their second win of the tournament and to some extent erased memories of their rugged group B display where they lost all their five games.

The win was also sweet revenge for Rwanda who had lost to Tunisia at the group stage.

Rwanda's center Tatum Brown was the architect of the win after scoring a game high 25 points. It was also living proof that Rwanda's run could have been different had the 31-year-old played at the group stage.

Meanwhile, Senegal proved that they are still Africa's basketball queens after crashing 2007 champions Mali in the final.

Senegal came off 72-57 winners to claim a tenth African title. Despite their final misery, Mali will find solace in the fact that they will still represent Africa alongside Senegal at next year's Fiba world championships in Czech Republic.
