Cameroon: North West - YOSA's Fundraising Congress Ends In Fiasco

Most elite of the Region boycotted the meeting convened by the governor.

It's like a golden ring on a pigs' nose or a beautiful wife given to a blind, as the people of the North West Region are yet to appreciate the fact that they now have a first division team. After about six years with no team in the first division league, here comes the newly promoted Yong Sports Academy, YOSA in to the MTN Elite one. Yet the population of the region seems not to understand the privileges that come with a first division team. As on several occasions they have turn down the invitation of the YOSA officials to raise funds so as to keep the team alive. This time around, it was the Governor of the North West Region, Abakar Ahamat who took the bull by the horn to invite elite for a fund raising congress on October 7. Behold, not up to 20 shown up in the congress hall. Governor Abakar Ahamat who came to cheer the occasion stood for close to two hours waiting for the population but to no avail. As a result the governor address the few people who turnout. The governor could not hide his feelings as he vehemently condemned the attitude of the population. The governor could not understand why even Regional Delegates, FECAFOOT vice president, Members of Parliament, economic operators did not show up.

Sounding so disappointed, Abakar Ahamat cancelled the congress and insisted that those who did not come should drop their contribution in his office. In his words "if they want to have peace with me they should come and see me in my office and give their contributions". More so, some journalists of the North West Region who are said to be omnipresent were not there.

Worthy of note is that YOSA will play its first match come October 17 in Garoua against Cotton Sports of Garoua. According to the proprietor of YOSA, Yong Francis during the first Congress convene by the club that was poorly attended, they raise CFA 1.7 million. Meanwhile despite the cancellation of the congress, those present on October 7, raise One million two hundred and Fifteen thousands francs which sum up to close to CFA 3 Millions. Yong Francis regretted that the population could have turned out to fill the hall and support the club morally.
