Kigali — Senegal's Traore takes MVP award Senegalese inspirational player, Aya Traore has emerged as the new Africa Best Player in women basketball.
Traore who inspired her side to victory over former champions Mali will now wear the crown of Most Valuable Player for the next two years.
The 25-year-old was also named on the tournament's all-star team.Other players on the honour list included fellow teammates Fatou Dieng and Aminata Diop, Nassecela Mauricio of Angola and Nagouma Coulibaly of Mali.
19-year-old Ivory Coast guard, Kani Kouyate topped the scoring charts with 125 points, Mali forward Djene Diawara won the best rebounder with 72 rebounds while Madagascar's Prisca Razananira was the championship best three-point-shooter.
Maiwenn Andriamilandy of Madagascar was the championship revelation; Mauritius team was given an honorary fair-play award while hosts Madagascar won the fair-play award.
Senegal and Mali will fly Africa's flag at next year's FIBA World Championship in Czech Republic.
