Kano — Barely few days to the commencement of the Under-17 World Youth Tournament, Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who visited Kano on Sunday to see the readiness of the centre okayed the job done so far at the centre. He said he is delighted with the facilities put in place by the Kano state government and the Local Organizing Committee of the championship.
His appreciation for the level of preparedness is coming in the heels of widespread worry that some of the facilities at the centre are progressing at a snake speed.
Jonathan flew into Kano on Sunday in the company of Minister of Sports, Engineer Sani Ndanusa, on a fact-finding mission to ascertain the level of preparedness of the Kano Centre to host the world. He commended Kano state government for its effort towards ensuring a hitch-free hosting.
The Minister of Sports while speaking to sportswriters on behalf of the Vice President said they were pleased at what they saw in Kano. He said Kano has been able to meet FIFA standard in all ramifications, especially, the two training pitches, adding that by such feat, Kano has met the minimum of two training pitches, namely Kano Pillars' Stadium and Sani Abacha Stadium which will serve as both training and playing pitches.
"We are absolutely satisfied with what we have seen on ground. As you can see for yourselves, Sani Abacha and Kano Pillars' stadia are well equipped with full flood lights and synthetic pitches. They meet international standard and the teams can train both day and night. So, we are okay with this arrangement," Ndanusa told sportswriters.
