Nigeria: Collapsed Building Kills Two Students, Injures Others

Birnin — Two students of Adamu, Augie College of Education, Argungu, were killed on Monday night while two others were injured when a buildingin which they were studying collapsed .The deceased were Hassana Abubakar and Salwuya Kasimu.

Those injured, Yazid Bala Wara and Aishatu Argungu, were still receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Argungu.

Eye witness account told THISDAY that the building collapsed at about 9 p.m. and took several hours before other students couldevacuate their colleagues from the collapsed building.

The deceased had since been buried in Argungu according to Muslim rites while one of those injured, Yazid Warra, had been transfered to University of Sokoto Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Provost of the College, Alhaji Muhammed Zagga, described the incident as unfortunate, saying it occurred when the studentswere sitting near the structure reading for their examinations.

He said the incident was reported to security agents and relevant government authorities.

The state Governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, yesterday condoledthe Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, and families of thedeceased over the sudden deaths of the students.
