Liberia:Three Foreign Service Officers Commissioned

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mrs. Olubanke King-Akerele on Monday, October 19, 2009 commissioned three Foreign Service Officers as part of the rotation in the Foreign Service and the restructuring of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the three officers were Mr. Varney Carmon, First Secretary and Consul, Embassy of Liberia in Accra, Ghana; Mr. Moiba Fofana, First Secretary and Consul, Embassy of Liberia in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Mr. Nathanial Jallah, First Secretary and Consul, Embassy of Liberia in Beijing, the People's Republic of China, respectively.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry, Minister King-Akerele urged the newly commissioned Foreign Service Officers to help raise the standard of Liberian diplomatic missions abroad through their commitment and service to their country.

According to Foreign Minister King-Akerele, the three Foreign Service Officers will face challenges at their various areas of assignments, but said there are exciting times ahead. She challenged the officers to justify the confidence repose in them, noting that much is expected of them, and encouraged them to support their Ambassadors' efforts to promote Government's foreign policy objectives.

Speaking separately, the three officers said they were aware of the challenges ahead of them but promised to bring pride to the Foreign Ministry and promotion of the government. They praised Minister King-Akerele for the level of achievement at the Ministry and the foreign policy objectives of this government.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Foreign Ministry including Deputy foreign Minister, Ambassador William V.S. Bull; Professor Augustine Konneh, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Service Institute; Chief of protocol of Liberia, Ambassador Edward Dunn, Jr; Deputy Minister for Administration, Hon. Andrew S. Allakamenin; His Excellency Ambassador Conmany B. Wesseh.
