Nigeria: Council to Renovate Tennis Pavilion at Apapa Club

Lagos — The Chairman of Apapa Local Government Area, Hon. Ayodeji Joseph said his council would assist the Apapa Club to execute some of the renovation projects currently undertaken by the club's management committee as a strategy to help the historic club regain its past glories.

Apapa Club which is a frontline recreational club will next month play host to the Inter club Quadrangular Games. But it has of recent been dogged by financial challenges as a result of declining membership and inadequate subscription fees.

Joseph gave a hand of fellowship to the management committee led by Engr Yusuf Mohammed by pledging to provide a new roof over the Tennis Pavilion. The local government will similarly supply fibre chairs to be placed at the swimming pool area.

The council chairman was the guest of honour at the ocassion where he led his management team and staff to the unveilling of the renovated tennis courts at Apapa Club.

He told THISDAY that the council pledged its support to Apapa Club because the club is a pride to the Apapa Local Government and Lagos State.

Hon Joseph also said that the gesture was made to help the committtee to achieve some of the objectives it set since it was inaugurated in March this year.

"We have seen the focus in the current management committee at the club and we really appreciate the great transformation that is going on at the place. We are blessed to have the club in our area as it is one of the notable elite clubs in the state. I am impressed with what I have seen and if I have the financial capacity I will do more", he vowed.

He described the current gesture as a drop in the ocean as the council intended to pave the club's car park in addition to re constructing the Parklane, the road that leads to the club.

According to Joseph, the LG intended to do the road project in three phases as it would cost it a lot of money.

Last week, the abandoned Theatre at Apapa Club was commissioned by Alhaji Adamu Biu, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers' Council.
