Dutse — In order to further open up the state for accelerated physical and economic development, the Jigawa State Government is to spend over N10 billion on the construction and rehabilitation of seven roads across the state.
The Commissioner of Works and Transport, Engr. Baba Aliyu, made this disclosure in Dutse, while speaking at the Bid-Opening for the second phase of intra-state road projects covering over 178 kilometres.
He said the state government attaches a lot of importance to the renovation and construction of roads because it is determined to "enhance the socio-economic development of the state by facilitating the movement of goods and services."
Aliyu also disclosed that the roads will help curtail rampant auto crashes, which "consume lives and properties everyday due to bad state of roads in many parts of the country."
He explained that bids have been received for the construction of 4 new roads which he listed as Kafinhausa-Ruba-Sabon sara- Balangu road (50km), Gada-Farun Daba-Dandi road (24km), Sarawa -Gurgun Dabo road (6km) and Tsamiya-Iggi-Jiboga-B/kudu road (42km).
Rehabilitation works which include Asphaltic Concrete overlay are also to be carried out on Gumel-Sule tankarkar-Babura road, Gidan lage-Kanya Babba road, and Gujungu-Hadejia road.
The Commissioner revealed that in the first phase of their road projects, a total of 11 roads with a combined distance of 470.26 kilometres saying that the second phase would bring total number of kilometres covered to nearly 700 in "just two years."
He pledged that the state government is determined to make the state an investor's paradise by providing all basic infrastructure necessary to make business grow.
