Tunisia: Gafsa Hosts Workshop on Teleworking Centers

Tunis — A workshop on the ways of developing the network of teleworking centers was held on Wednesday October 21, 2009 in Gafsa, with the participation of many investors, young entrepreneurs and representatives of Tunisian and foreign companies operating in the ICT sector.

The meeting was an opportunity to showcase investment opportunities in regional Teleworking centers namely in call centers and remote services, information technology and multimedia.

Chairing the meeting Mr. El Hadj Gley, Minister of Communication Technology, stressed the opportunities Teleworking centers offer in strengthening investment and employment in innovative sectors.

The Minister stressed the importance of the presidential decision to create a network of Teleworking centers in Redeyef, Métlaoui, Om Larayes, Mdhilla and, in addition to two centers created recently in the city of Gafsa.

M. Gley took cognizance of the activities of two Teleworking centers in Gafsa which provide 330 jobs, where nine innovative companies operating in the software development sector, processing and storage of remote data and call centers.

In Metlaoui, the Minister inquired about the activity of Teleworking center currently in service and which houses two call centers with 80 job seats.

In Redeyef, the Minister visited another similar center whose activities will kick-start next December. This center where an active Tunisian-Italian company will be settled in the remote services sector is expected to employ approximately 250 persons.

He also took cognizance of the components of the proposed reconstruction projects of Redeyef post office.

In Om Larayes, the Minister inquired about the presidential project related to the establishment of Teleworking center whose construction will start shortly; he also visited a premise destined to house a cable manufacturing unit set up by YAZAKI, the world's largest producer of wiring harnesses and a leader in the automotive industry.

In Gafsa, the Minister visited the premises that will include a center for technological innovation that Microsoft intends to create in the region so as to provide technology support to young entrepreneurs in the sectors of information technology, and multimedia.
