Tunisia: Country Hosts a Study Day on 'Bank Ethics'

20 October 2009

Tunis — A study day on "bank ethics" was held Monday in Tunis by the Association of Chartered Accountants of Tunisia (OECT) in collaboration with the Tunisian Central Bank (BCT) and the Professional Association of Tunisian banks and financial institutions (APTBEF).

This day aims to raise awareness of the importance of ethics in improving the quality of banking services and optimize the management of risks by financial institutions.

Tunisian banks are also required to adopt the culture of banking ethics in order to ensure bank sustainability and increase their confidence, especially among investors in this period of crisis.

"We need a culture of ethics", said Ms. Faiza Kefi, First President of the Court of Auditors. She also recalled that banking ethics become an essential component of good governance.

The study day also highlighted that the financial scandals that marked the international financial arena, could be minimized if "the giant financial institutions" such as "Lehman Brothers" and others had opted for a proper application of rules of honesty and fair financial reporting.
