Angola: Chief Justice Wants Speedy Trials

22 October 2009

Uíge — Prisoners' remand time should have a privileged treatment, since there might be cases of wrong imprisonment, considered Wednesday in the northern Uíge Province the Supreme Court Chief Justice, Cristiano André.

The top judge made such statement during a lecture to officials from provinces like Uíge, Cabinda, Zaire and Kwanza Norte, who are receiving training at the National Institute of Judicial Studies (INEJ).

On the occasion, the Chief Justice said that non fulfilment of such law has undermined many people's rights, that is, citizens wrongly placed on remand.

During the lecture, Cristiano André stressed the importance of fulfilling the legal deadlines during the lawsuit, as well as the various procedures.

The Supreme Court Chief Justice also met judicial magistrates and workers of the Provincial Court and Prosecution Office.
