Luanda — Angola is integrating the troika of observers of Mozambique's general elections of the Organ for Political, Defence and Security Cooperation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), under the presidency of Zambia.
According to SADC mission's source, in normal conditions the leadership of troika of observers is handed over to the country which takes up the presidency of the referred organ.
Exceptionally, this function is assumed by Zambia because Mozambique (president de facto) is holding the polls.
In the troika of observer, Angola also holds the function of secretariat and of the press area, apart from being appointed to assist in translation the head of the SADC Observer Mission, the Zambian minister of Foreign Affairs, Kabinga Mpande, explained the source.
However, nine of the Angolan observers (included two diplomats in that country), of the seventeen expected members, are in Mozambique, pending the arrival of other officials from different institutions of the Angolan government.
The source also referred that five Angolan observers already started working Wednesday in Maputo, and four others are travelling to Inhabame province.
Political parties and presidential candidates in Mozambique are busy since 13 September holding electoral campaign, scheduled to end Sunday.
