Zambia: Police Arrest Two Suspects

POLICE have arrested two suspects who allegedly attacked an Asian businessman and robbed him of K35 million Kwacha in Lusaka this week.

Police spokesperson, Bonny Kapeso said the two suspects of Lusaka were apprehended in Petauke District in Eastern Province where they had gone into hiding following the robbery.

Mr Kapeso said in an interview yesterday that police recovered K34 million from the suspects, an AK 47 rifle, cheque books and two masks.

He said the businessman was attacked by the suspects along Omelo Mumba Road as he was driving into his residence.

He identified the suspects as Steven Lungu and Alick Kaluba, all of Lusaka and they have since been remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, the police have picked up a body of a 75-year-old man who was allegedly murdered by unknown people and later dumped near a stream in Chama.

Mr Kapeso said the deceased was found with deep cuts on his head and investigations have been launched.

And the Drug Enforcement Commission Enforcement (DEC) has arrested a 24-year-old peasant farmer of Nakonde for allegedly trafficking in 106 bundles of miraa, which was concealed in bags of dried Kapenta.
