Abuja — A mother of four yesterday told an Upper Area Court in a divorce suit that her husband has not paid the necessary dowry to her parent since they got married 20 years ago.

Mrs Asiyat Muhammad informed the court that any time she raises the issue with him, he quarrels with her, adding that he has failed to meet up with his responsibilities as a father and husband.

She appealed to the court to grant her divorce petition.

In his response, Muhammad Salami did not dispute the allegations levelled against him by his wife and begged the court to appeal to his wife not to leave him.

He promised to be of a good conduct hence forth and appealed for time to settle the case out of court.

Having listened to the plea, Judge Hamza Yahaya Gashua advised Salami to go and see his wife's parents to pay everything that is required of him so that they can be legally married.

The Judge also gave the husband two month to pay the dowry and return to brief the court.

The case was adjourned to December 21 for ruling.
