Abuja — The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Wednesday launched the e-NHIS aimed at increasing the coverage of the scheme as well as serve as a mechanism to checkmate fraudulent activities.
The NHIS which is partnering with a subsidiary of the World Bank, the Interrnational Finance Corporation, said they expect to achieve universal coverage of the health scheme in 2015 in line with the mandate of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.
Speaking during a briefing to announce the launch, the executive secretary of the scheme, Dr Mohammed Dogo said the e-NHIS will enhance access to health care and remove any bottle neck that might arise.
Calling on Nigerians to embrace the e-NHIS Dogo- Mohammed assured that the programme will be powered by state of the art ICT equipment will make the services of the NHIS more effective and customer friendly.
The scheme at the momentcovere only 5 million people mainly federal civil servants who represent about 3 per cent of the entire 140 million Nigerian population.
