THERE will be a power outage for the whole day in most of northern Namibia on Sunday, NamPower announced yesterday.
There will be no electricity from 06h30 to 19h00 this Sunday to allow NamPower to cross the existing 22,66 and 220 kilovolt (kV) power lines with the new 350 kV line of the Caprivi Link Interconnector currently under construction.
"Tsumeb, Grootfontein, Otavi, Kombat and all the surrounding farms in that area and the mines at Okorusu, Kombat, Tschudi and the whole of the Kavango Region will be affected by the power outage," NamPower said in a statement. The areas at Dirico, Mucusso, Calai and Cuangar in the Kavango Region and cross-border supplies to nearby villages in neighbouring Angola will also be without electricity for that day.
The same goes for Mohembo in Botswana, which receives electricity from Namibia.
"The public is cautioned to treat all power lines and electrical points as 'live' during that time," the company said. On Sunday, November 1, there will be another power outage for the same length of time.
